They all claim to have inside information on the 'iPhone' but their reports conflict.
We'll soon know who's credible and who's full of it. Or if Apple doesn't release a phone they're all wrong.
1. Kevin Rose.
Probably the best known and most credible of all, Kevin Rose claims to have inside info on the Apple phone from a “solid” source, Kevin made the following statements:
- January launch date on all carriers
- Extremely small form factor
- Two batteries
- Two Models: 4GB for $249, 8GB for $449
- Slide-out keyboard.
- Possibly touchscreen
*Kevin accurately predicted the launch of the iPod nano in 2005.
2. Rebecca F Runkle
An analyst for Morgan Stanley, Rebbecca F Runkle claims she has “high convictions” that the apple phone will launch in the first half of 2007. She also claims inside sources have given her the following information:
- Two Models: 4Gb for $599, 8GB for $649
- Wider than the iPod nano, yet thinner than the iPod Video
- Made of Metal
- Muliple Colors, but at least black, white, silver
- Claims Cingular is likely US carrier.
- Virtual Clickwheel
- Full screen LCD (3.5 inch)
3. Jesse Tortora
Prudential's Jesse Tortora claimed on December 5th that apple started producing one of their new Apple cell phones and claimed it would be available for sale late in the 1st Quarter of 2007. He also claimed the smartphone version would not be available until the 3rd quarter of 2007.
note: he also claims apple is working on a widescreen iPod to be released the 1st or 2d quarter of 2007.
4. Leo Laporte
The host of 'This Week in Tech' has been quoted as saying that there was “Absolutely No Doubt” that we would see an Apple cell phone this year at Macworld.
5. Kaan Yigit
President of Solutions Research Group, Kaan Yigit, has been quoted as saying "We will definitely see an Apple wireless phone product introduced this year."
6. Shaw Wu
Shaw Wu of American Technology Research claims, “The design will be an iPod nano-like candy bar form factor and come in three colors (we are not certain of the exact colors but we suspect black, white and platinum, similar to Apple's current color scheme of iPods and Macs).”
7. Cody Acree
"We became very confident that Skyworks has earned the front-end module for the new iPhone," says Cody Acree , managing director at Stifel Nicolaus
8. Edward Snyder
A principal analyst at Charter Equity Research, Snyder also claims Skyworks is involved with the Apple cell phone.
9 Commercial Times
The Commercial Times reported that Taiwan's Hon Hai received a 12 million unit contract with Apple to produce the Apple cell phone.
10. Think Secret
Think secret has long been claiming that Apple will release a cell phone in early 2007. They claim the phone will have the following specs:
- 3-megapixel Camera.
- 2.2 inch display
- Complete iTunes/iPod integration.
- Strictly GSM/EDGE
- Apple asking carriers to not subsidize the price of the phone

I am glad to see that someone put together a comprehensive list of speculators.
On which episode did Kevin predict the Nano?
When are we going to see a small and light notebook that you can keep with you in a sling? You won't need an iPod, nor a phone because, the remote will be usble as both. Hasn't the move to back all been in prep for the solar re-charging?
Kevin didn't predict it on an episode. He predicted it on his old blog, kevinrose.com as memory recalls.
I believe it is a CDMA phone with Verizon but the deal may be delayed.
I'm not sure why Leo Laporte is on this list. If you listen to all his podcasts, he hasn't been one of those out there pretending to be 'in the know.'
He's actually been very up and down on it. However, with so many insisting there will be one, I think Leo has just gone along with the flow.
To suggest that his reputation is at stake on this comment seems quite absurd.
On the other hand, I'd love to see Kevin Rose be proved wrong. The whole "oops, I was drunk, I said to much," is just plain ridiculous... why didn't he just edit it out?
None of these predictions by these reputed people offer much insight.
Cingular is a huge provider so of course it is most likely Apple will choose to be with them.
It will almost certainly be black or white, this is not hard to guess as these are ipod colours.
Maybe it will be metal, as the back of the ipod is.
Saying it will be thinner than the ipod 5th Gen but wider than the ipod nano is pretty obvious, because what cellphone doesn't pretty much fit those dimensions exactly?
(Of course it being an apple product, it will be slightly thinner than the rest)
That it will have 4 to 8 gigs of memory, obviously. Apple will not fit a hard drive in a phone as this is asking for trouble (Nokia N91, anyone?) so will have to use flash memory.
You need to provide links to the "quotes" you use. It's entirely lame not to do so!!!
I really hope "Kevin" is who i think it is.
Kevin predicted it in the Nov 30 or maybe the week after, Dec 8(?) episode of Diggnation
Did Kevin Rose actually say "all carriers?" I find it difficult to believe that, for instance, Apple's first release would include an iDEN phone for Nextel/Boost Mobile AND a CDMA phone for Verizon and Sprint (and others) AND a GSM phone for Cingular and T-mobile. Really? ALL carriers?
you can add international herald tribune to the list.

you forgot the analysts at Piper Jaffrey who have been very vocal about it and even raised Apple Target stock prices a few points because of the expected iPhone sales
FiringSquad.com expects the Apple mobile phone to use a single battery, no keyboard, flash RAM, and market-leading battery performance thanks to next-gen system-on-chip technology. No formal PDA, but it will have PIM features.
